Rules
By playing Vampire Genesis you agree to these rules and to the Terms and Conditions. It is your responsibility to read and know them before you play or chat.
SECTION I: OVERVIEW
1) These rules are a guideline to in-game behaviour. When in doubt, the staff will examine the intent of the rules as a whole and apply them to each situation appropriately. If you do something that is not covered explicitly here, you may still be punished if the action merits it.
- 1a) Lestat, the Administrator, is the last word on any dispute involving these rules, and is exempt from them.
2) This website is a business. Any player who attempts to defame it or its staff, whether through defamation or illicit activities such as hacking or spamming advertisements, will be deleted. This website and its staff cannot be held responsible for the actions of a player.
3) If a player ever threatens the website, its staff or its administration with legal action of any kind, their account will be deleted and their Premium purchases voided.
4) By playing this game you release this site and its staff from any liability for what happens in game.
5) Your history is taken into account when you are punished. A first offence, such as spamming a chat, may bring a short ban; repeating it brings longer ones. Don't complain that two players were punished differently for the same thing.
SECTION II: GENERAL RULES FOR PLAYERS
1) Players may not discriminate against any other player on the basis of national or racial origin, religious belief, sex or sexual orientation, nor against staff on the basis of their position.
2) Players may not have offensive names, or names meant to impersonate a staff member or another player. This includes coven names and tags.
3) Players may not impersonate a staff member, whether through their actions, name or name colour (e.g. Moderator blue or Admin orange, or any variation of them).
4) Players may not harass any other player. Harassment is any unwanted communication that is excessive in number or severe in content. Threatening a player with violence, or impersonating a player (for example, with a name close to theirs), is also harassment. If you feel harassed, contact a staff member immediately, or email [email protected].
5) Players may not disclose game secrets, or ask others for them. Game secrets include the Question of the Day, Hangman and nightly Cipher answers.
6) Players may not attempt to hack or reverse-engineer the game in any way; players found doing so will be deleted and may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
- 6a) Players may not use game bugs to advance their account; report bugs to staff immediately.
- 6b) Auto-refreshers, bots and any automated software that plays or interacts with the game are forbidden. Using one is a jailable offence, without warning.
7) Players should respect staff. If a disagreement occurs, they may politely ask another staff member to review it (see Section VII).
- 7a) Do not tell a staff member how to do their job, and do not ask to become staff.
8) Profile rules:
- 8a) Players may not hide or obscure any buttons on their profile (Attack, Add to Blacklist and so on) or any advertisements.
- 8b) Headers may not exceed 250 pixels in height.
9) "User request" jailings are not granted. If you no longer wish to play, stop logging in, or delete your account from the Account page.
SECTION III: ACCOUNTS
1) In the spirit of fair play, each person may have one account. A second account is a multiple account ("multi") and will be jailed. Repeatedly creating multis will result in an IP ban.
2) More than one player may play from the same connection (IP), with these conditions:
- 2a) Tell a member of staff before the second account is made: who the other player is to you, and how long you will share the connection. Failing to do so means the second account is jailed. Telling us does not guarantee the account will be allowed; it is at staff's discretion.
- 2b) Players on the same connection may not send gold or items to each other. Doing so will get both accounts jailed.
- 2c) Sharing a connection with a player who has broken these rules may also see your account jailed or deleted.
3) All accounts are the property of the PorcelainSky portal and can be edited at any time. Selling an account, gold, items or anything else from the game for real-world money is strictly forbidden.
4) By creating an account you state that you are at least 16 years old, or have your parent's permission to play. Accounts found to be false will be jailed without notice.
SECTION IV: CHAT, FORUMS AND COMMUNICATION
1) This website is English. Please use English in all public communication.
2) Players may not flood or spam threads or chat, or post consecutively in the same thread.
3) Players may not post in ALL CAPS.
4) Players may not make off-topic posts (in the wrong board, or with nothing to do with the thread). Players may not post "first" in any forum, or in any room but the Red Room.
5) Players may not advertise the buying or selling of accounts or items for other games.
6) Players may not post their referral link anywhere on this website.
7) Players may not post or share pornographic or obscene images or links. Excessively obscene comments and sexual role-play ("cybering") are forbidden everywhere on the site.
8) Players may not link to, advertise or discuss other text-based games not run by PorcelainSky in any public place.
9) Players may not excessively flame (personally attack) another player or group. Slander or libel of a player in a non-joking way will be harshly punished. If you answer a flamer in kind, you may not report them for it.
10) Players may not publicly complain about moderation in the forums or chat. Posting for someone who is banned, outside your coven's own boards, may earn you the same sentence.
11) Serious topics (alcohol, drugs, politics and religion) are not for public chat or the forums; keep them to whispers, Mail or your coven's own channels, between players who are happy to talk about them. Sexual content is not allowed anywhere in the game or on its Discord.
12) Petitions are strictly forbidden; players running them will be permanently banned from the site and all of PorcelainSky's network.
13) Signatures may not exceed 590 pixels wide, 200 pixels high or 500 KB, with no more than two non-emoticon images (see the emoticons).
14) Some forums have their own rules, in the topics pinned at the top of each board. They are enforced as part of these rules.
15) The Counting House (trade chat) follows the Trade chat rules.
- MUSIC HALL (ROLEPLAY) RULES
16) Out-of-character posts go in parentheses, including AFK and BRB: (AFK), (BRB).
17) Character biographies belong in your profile, not in chat.
18) No god-modding: no making your character all-powerful or unkillable, and no controlling other players' characters. When characters fight, you may kill another, but not with all-powerful ease.
19) Use proper English, grammar and punctuation as best you can: no "text" language.
20) Take personal arguments to whispers or Mail, not the room.
21) Never criticise another player's writing in the room; everyone starts somewhere. If you must, whisper them kindly.
22) No graphic or sexually explicit scenes.
23) No disrespecting or trolling other players. All chat and site rules still apply.
- CEASE CONTACT ORDERS
24) A Cease Contact Order (CCO) is an order from staff that two players must stop all contact, by every means of communication. Breaking a CCO, or helping someone get around one, is a serious offence.
SECTION V: COVENS
1) Covens may not flood players with invitations through Mail, comments or battle sayings.
2) Coven names may not be similar to existing covens.
3) Covens may be held responsible for the actions of their members.
- 3a) Covens may not hide illegal gold or items in their treasury or bank.
- 3b) If a member steals from one coven and joins another, the stolen goods may be seized to cover the debt.
- 3c) A coven with a high-level member caught multi-farming (running a string of multis) may be deleted.
4) Coven chat, the coven's Discord channel and coven forums must follow the communication rules.
5) Coven tag colours may not match or closely resemble orange, purple, red or Moderator blue (#0066cc).
SECTION VI: THE MARKET AND TRADING
1) The Market is for selling old or spare goods at a fair price, not for profiteering from new players. Players may not list items for ridiculous sums.
- 1a) Players may not use the Market, trades or gifts to move gold around the daily gold limit: no junk listed for millions between friends or alts, no buying back your own goods at silly prices. Price your goods as you like otherwise; staff review listings far from the going rate and can undo deals made to launder gold.
- 1b) Vials are exempt, since their value depends on what players know of them; but amounts far from the market average will be dealt with.
- 1c) Listing an item for an excessive price to repay a loan must be cleared with a moderator first.
- 1d) When a new item costs some other currency, rule 1a is waived until a fair average price is known.
2) A legal transaction is any trade between players (or covens) who accept the risk of it. Staff will not intervene in a legal transaction: they cannot make anyone return gold or items, and they will not enforce loans or private agreements. Be careful who you trust.
3) An illegal transaction is one that involves a bug or exploit, or that starts and ends with players on the same connection. If you think you have been the victim of one, contact a moderator.
SECTION VII: STAFF AND GRIEVANCES
1) Staff are subject to all of these rules. To be exempt from a rule, a staff member must be acting within the scope of their position.
2) Staff may not use their position to advance their account. Doing so is grounds for immediate dismissal.
3) Staff must remain respectful to players while acting in their position; in ordinary conversation they may be casual.
4) If you believe a staff member has wronged you, the grievance procedure below is the only way to have their action reversed:
- 4a) Within 48 hours, contact another staff member and ask them to review it, with a full screenshot of the incident if you can. Contact only one, and do not repeat the complaint.
- 4b) From then on, wait. Complaining about the action publicly invalidates the grievance.
- 4c) Staff discuss the complaint, and a decision is normally reached within 24 hours. You will receive Mail with the result and any warning.
5) Repeated complaints about one staff member may be passed to the Administrator, who may act at his discretion.
