About

About Vampire Genesis

Vampire Genesis is a free vampire game you play in your browser: a persistent online world where your vampire hunts, joins a coven and fights for a gothic city called Death Valley. It is independent, made by one creator, Lestat, and it comes from a line of vampire browser games that goes back to 2004.

A lineage since 2004

Vampire Genesis didn't start as Vampire Genesis. It is the latest in a line of vampire browser games built by the same creator:

  • 2004: Vampire Freaks: The Game, the first.
  • 2005: Blood of the Age.
  • Twilight Meadow, another step along the way.
  • November 2010: Coven Wars, which grew into the game you can play today and was later renamed Vampire Genesis.

Some players have stayed through more than a decade of these games, and the in-game credits name a few of them. Your vampire is never reset: the world is persistent, and the game keeps growing around it.

Who makes it

Vampire Genesis is designed and built by Lestat, its creator and lead developer, as part of the PorcelainSky Network. It is independent: no publisher and no investors, just a creator and a community. Lestat writes the guides on this site, including the Familiar Guide and the Game Guide.

The world

Long ago the whole world turned, and the new vampire nobility kept the best of the old one: gaslight, top hats, cathedral spires and firm opinions about table manners. Centuries later, Death Valley runs on machines no mortal dreamed of, brass-and-glass blood engines and holo-signs in the fog, yet the hearses are still drawn by horses.

The city is a real place in the game. Its pixel-art map keeps its own clock and weather, so the sun sets, fog rolls in and blood rain falls, and every lit window belongs to a real player.

What you do

  • Hunt on expeditions into the four wild wards beyond the city, where the deeper you go the richer the blood, or descend into the Ossuary, a crypt you can crawl alone or with friends.
  • Join a coven and wage territory wars for the city's eight districts.
  • Fight other vampires in the arena, collect bounties and climb the monthly Ranked ladder.
  • Catch familiars: over 160 creatures to collect, raise and battle. See every one in the Familiar Guide.
  • Craft weapons, armor, potions, dyes and jewels in professions that depend on each other, with gear graded from Poor to Legendary.
  • Make a home, from a single room to a mansion on the city map.
  • Grow to level 500, then earn Paragon ranks beyond the cap.

Free, and fair

Vampire Genesis is free to play. Premium items are cosmetic only: the game never sells gold, Actions or gear, so nobody can buy their way to the top.
