Vampire Genesis is one of the original free vampire games still thriving online. Long ago the whole world turned, every last soul of it, and the new nobility kept what it liked best of the old one: gaslight, top hats, cathedral spires and firm opinions about table manners. Centuries on, Death Valley runs on machines no mortal ever dreamed of, brass-and-glass blood engines and holo-signs flickering through the fog, yet the hearses are still drawn by horses, because some things are simply done properly. Join this free vampire MMORPG and learn what it takes to rule it — the hunt, the familiars, coven wars and the occasional duel over a borrowed cravat. No download required; play instantly in your browser. Do you have what it takes?
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Vampire Genesis (vampiregenesis.com and the Vampire Genesis apps) collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept and the rights you have over it. It applies to players and visitors everywhere, and is written to meet the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and the ePrivacy rules on cookies.
Who we are
Vampire Genesis is run by PorcelainSky LLC, the data controller for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, including the requests listed under "Your rights", email [email protected].
What we collect
- Account data: your vampire name, password (stored only as a one-way hash), and your email address if you add one. A guest account needs no email. If you sign in with Google we receive your Google account id and email address.
- Profile data you choose to add: things like a quote, birthday, city, country, "about me" text and your avatar. These are optional and shown on your public profile.
- Game and community data: your character, progress, items, battles, coven membership, and the messages, whispers, chat, forum posts and comments you write.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser and device type, login times and security records (such as two-factor settings and remembered-device tokens). We log IP addresses to keep accounts secure, stop cheating and multi-accounting, and credit referral links.
- Payment data: if you buy Blood Opals or premium time, the payment is handled by our payment processor. We receive a record of the purchase (what, when, amount and a transaction id); we never see or store your full card number.
- Notification data: if you turn on push notifications, a push subscription for your browser or device.
- Discord link (optional): if you link a Discord account, your Discord user id and name, and whether you asked to be sent direct messages.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To run the game and your account (create and secure your account, save your progress, deliver messages, process purchases): necessary to perform our contract with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
- To keep the game fair and safe (anti-cheat, multi-account and fraud checks, moderation of reports, security logs): our legitimate interest in a fair, secure game (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- To email you: account emails (password resets, security notices) are part of running your account. Reminder and news emails can be turned off at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Push notifications and optional cookies: only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
- Legal duties: keeping payment records and responding to lawful requests (Art. 6(1)(c)).
We do not sell your personal data, we do not use it for advertising profiles, and we do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Cookies and similar storage
When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you choose which optional cookies to allow. Strictly necessary cookies are always on because the site cannot work without them; everything else waits for your choice. You can change your choice at any time: Cookie settings.
- Strictly necessary:
PHPSESSID(your login session, deleted when you close the browser);vg_session(identifies this signed-in device for 90 days, so you can see your devices and sign them out in Account Options);cwtoken,cwuser,cwsecureandcwpass(keep you signed in on this device if you choose to stay logged in); the consent cookie set by our banner to remember your choice. - Referral:
xstores the id of the player whose invite link you followed, for 30 days, so they are credited if you join. - Local storage: the game keeps small display preferences in your browser (for example chat tab, list filters and sort order). These never leave your device.
Vampire Genesis does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and it does not use third-party analytics.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, and only for the purposes above:
- Hosting: our web and database servers, where all game data is stored.
- Authorize.Net: card payments for Blood Opals and premium time.
- Google: "Sign in with Google", only if you use it. (Our fonts are hosted on our own servers, not loaded from Google.) Videos that players link in posts play from YouTube's privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) player, which loads from Google when you view them.
- Discord: the game's three public chat rooms (the Red Room, the Counting House and the Music Hall) are mirrored to the Vampire Genesis Discord server, so a line you post there also appears on Discord under your vampire name and portrait (edits and deletions follow it). From coven level 10 a coven's chat is mirrored the same way to that coven's private Discord channel, which only its linked members and game staff can read. If you link your Discord account, Discord also receives your nickname and roles (see below) and, only if you switch on Discord messages, a direct message with any Mail or missed whisper sent to you while you're away. Staff chat and whispers between players who are online never leave the game.
- KLIPY: the GIF picker. When you search for a GIF, your search words go to KLIPY, and the GIFs you see load from KLIPY's servers.
- Content delivery networks (cdnjs / Cloudflare and Google Hosted Libraries): serve some of the site's scripts, and receive your IP address when they do.
- Push services run by your browser or phone maker (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla): deliver notifications you have switched on.
- ConsentCaptain: shows the cookie banner and keeps a record of the choice you made.
Some of these providers are in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or European Economic Area it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. We also disclose information when the law requires it, or where needed to investigate fraud, threats to anyone's safety or serious breaches of our Terms.
What other players can see
Your vampire name, profile, avatar, rankings, coven and anything you post in public areas (chat, forums, comments, profiles) are visible to other players and, for some pages, to the public. Please don't post personal details there you would not want shared.
How long we keep it
- Account, profile and game data: for as long as your account exists. A guest account (one with no email or password added) is deleted after 7 days without a visit.
- Discord link (optional): if you link Discord, we store your Discord user id and name. On the Vampire Genesis Discord server your nickname is set to your vampire name and your coven, level band and Premium are shown as roles, so other members can see which Discord account is yours. Unlinking (Account Options → Discord) removes the link and those roles straight away.
- Whispers (private chat lines): 7 days, then deleted. If you report a whisper, the reported line is kept with the report so moderators can review it; they see only the reported line, not the rest of the conversation.
- When you delete your account (Account Options → Delete account), we erase your email, passwords, IP addresses, Google and Discord links, two-factor secrets, devices, push subscriptions, friends list, whispers, conversations and received mail, and rename the account so it can no longer be signed into. Game records that are woven into other players' history (battles, coven and war logs, and messages you sent to others) remain, shown under the deleted account rather than your name.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Security and IP logs: only as long as needed to protect the game.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EEA (and in many other places) you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct data that is wrong (most of it you can edit yourself in Account Options and Edit Profile);
- erase your data, which you can do yourself by deleting your account;
- restrict or object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- data portability: receive the data you gave us in a machine-readable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, for cookies, push notifications or emails, without affecting what happened before;
- complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU, the authority in your country).
To use any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address on your account (or tell us your vampire name). We reply within one month.
Age
Vampire Genesis is for players aged 17 and over, as set out in our Terms. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if you believe a child has made an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, connections are encrypted, two-factor sign-in is available, and staff access to personal data is limited to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Other sites
Links to other websites are covered by those sites' own privacy policies, not this one.
Changes
We may update this policy as the game changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; if a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in game.
